Introduction
Welcome!
My name is Tang Kee. I like making things with machines, so I have had a very strong desire to own a lathe that I could run at home. This became a reality with my purchase of a Sherline model 4000 lathe in 2005. The Sherline lathe was well suited for this at a price I could afford.
In 2008 a Sherline 2000 mill was added to my collection, as making cylindrical parts were no longer enough for me. I operated this manual mill for about 2 years.
Having this mill converted to CNC was my ultimate goal. The stuffs needed to make this possible were purchased at different times, such as a Xylotex stepper motor controller, Mach 3, stepper motors. I did not get the opportunity or courage to integrate them and went through the conversion, however. The biggest reason was lack of parallel port interface on my laptop computer. The breakthrough finally came when I read about a product called Smoothstepper while researching the web on CNC conversion. Finally, there was a device that could help bridge the gap between my computer and motor controller without the need for a parallel port. I bought one immediately and my journey with CNC milling started!
This webpage is created to share stuffs I have done on my machining hobby, especially with my Sherline CNC mill. I hope you enjoy your visit.
If you have any comments or feedbacks about this website please email me.
